We don't run overseas trips.
Americans ask about this often, and the honest answer is that a visiting volunteer costs a partner more in hosting, supervision and translation than the work is worth, and short-term adult contact with children carries safeguarding risk we won't take on.
A round-trip flight to East Africa runs about $1,400. That's 5,600 meals. We'd rather have the meals, and so would the school.
What we do need is specific and mostly remote.
Open roles
What we're short of
Accountants
Two days a quarter helping partners tighten bookkeeping over video call. Qualified only.
Translators
Swahili, Luo, Dagbani, Chichewa and French. Mostly kitchen reports and consent forms.
Teachers
School linking: your class and a partner class exchange work three times a year.
Grant writers
Helping partners apply to funders who aren't us. Genuinely the highest-leverage thing on this list.
City organizers
Running a local supporter group, four events a year, in any metro with more than a dozen of our donors.
Board members
We recruit one or two a year. Food supply chain and digital safeguarding are the current gaps.
